Go therefore and make disciples… (Matthew 28:19)
In the last 20 years, I have come to understand more fully the command to make disciples. There are numerous ways to phrase God’s design for discipleship, but none better than 2 Timothy 2:2; disciples making disciples who make disciples.
As a child, I thought that only missionaries are the ones “going and making disciples.” Then I grew to understand that as I go daily, I am called to make disciples. As believers, we are to all be on mission every day, and we don’t have to go on the “mission fields” of Central America, China, the Middle East to make disciples. In fact, our daily area of influence is our mission field in which we are called to make disciples.
This also begs the question, What is a disciple? The definition of a disciple is someone who adheres to another’s teachings; is a follower or a learner of another. It refers to someone who takes up the ways of someone else. When we apply this to following Jesus, a disciple is someone who learns from Him how to live, love, serve and act like Jesus. I believe that a disciple of Jesus is a worshiper, a servant, and a witness to the life of Jesus Christ. This is transforming for you as a disciple and for those that you are discipling. Are you a Disciple? Are you being discipled?
As part of our mission at Then GO! Ministries, we provide opportunities for you to come as a Men’s group, as a Women’s group, a Family unit, or as Student Ministry and deepen your discipleship with one another by serving others with no expectation of receiving anything in return. After a short-term trip to serve and love others, I have seen so much life transformation that God uses this time to draw you into a deeper relationship with Himself.
We’d love to host your team here in the RGV. Come disciple your team while serving and discipling others.
